The 2024 Annual Meeting of the Chinese Society of Agronomy and the China Modern Agricultural Development Forum announced major new technologies, new products, and new equipment for China's agriculture and rural areas in 2024. Among them, the new cabbage variety "Zhonggan 56" and the new cucumber variety "Zhongnong Cui Yu 3" were among the 11 new products.
"Zhonggan 56" was developed by the cabbage vegetable genetic breeding team using the dominant male sterile line with independent intellectual property rights to solve the problem of premature bolting of cabbage in protected areas in winter and spring. It has significant breakthroughs in bolting resistance and early maturity, and is available on the market 7 to 10 days earlier. In the past three years, it has been promoted in a total of about 315,000 mu in many places, accounting for 60% of the protected cabbage planting area, increasing production by 10.7%, adding 94.5 million yuan in net income, and total economic benefits of 630 million yuan. It also saves farmers about 10 million yuan in seed costs.
"Zhongnong Cuiyu 3" is a new functional fat-reducing cucumber variety, which improves the poor disease resistance and stress resistance of protected white cucumbers and poor commercial quality. It is rich in succinic acid, has fat-reducing effects, has a crisp and sweet taste, strong comprehensive disease resistance, and a high yield of more than 12,000 kg per mu. It is suitable for greenhouse and shed cultivation across the country and has won many awards.
